2026 Federal Candidate Questionnaire

U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives, Michigan


This questionnaire is being sent to every ballot-qualified candidate for U.S. Senate and for U.S. House in each of Michigan's congressional districts. All responses will be published verbatim and unedited. Candidates who do not return the questionnaire will be listed as "Did not respond."


For each of the following, please indicate whether you have not, and will not, seek the support of, accept the endorsement of, campaign with, appear at an event of, or aid in the fundraising of any organization, including the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) or any of its chapters, that advocates for the extreme position described. For each of the eight items, please select one response. You may add up to 100 words of explanation per item.

1. Replacing the U.S. Constitution with a new one to create a socialist republic. The 13th, 14th, 15th, and 24th Amendments abolished slavery, guaranteed equal protection under the law, and secured Black Americans' right to vote.

2. Eliminating all police protection, including in Black neighborhoods. In 2023, Black Americans had the highest rate of violent-crime victimization of any group and were 50% more likely than white Americans to be victims.

3. Eliminating prisons and freeing every prisoner, including those convicted of murder and rape. Black Americans are 6.4 times more likely to be killed by homicide, and nearly one in five Black women has been a victim of sexual assault.

4. Decriminalizing the sale of drugs, including heroin, crack, and fentanyl. In 2024, the Black overdose death rate was 50% higher than the national average.

5. Decriminalizing prostitution. From 2013 to 2022, about one in four human trafficking victims identified by the FBI was Black. Four in five victims were women and girls, and girls ages 13 to 16 were the most trafficked.

6. Government takeover of the largest corporations and essential industries, including automakers. Black workers' share of the auto workforce is more than double their share of the overall workforce.
